Hi Friends!
Today's "WTF?" © stevenn beck
So….the other day I was coming back on a very crowded E train. I found a seat though at 14th street….but at 42nd street a VERY pregnant young lady - she looked as though she was going to have her child at any moment - boarded the train. None of the people sitting near me or across from me could have failed to notice this woman and the fact that she was pregnant. She was standing right in front of us, in a place where we could not fail to notice her. Anyway, I called her over and asked her if she would like my seat. She thanked me and sat down. I stood up and pushed towards the end of the subway car. I was looking for a place where I could get a better grip to avoid falling. Suddenly in the crowd I saw ANOTHER young lady standing up against the doorway. She was ALSO very pregnant….and had three young children standing close to her.
Well….if looks could kill…like I purposely chose the other mom-to-be over her? This one happened not to be in my field of vision. She continued to look at me with hatred…
So to her - and to all the selfish people on the car who failed to offer their seat (later on two other very pregnant women boarded and THEY had to stand all the way to 71st/Continental in Queens) I give one big fat "WTF?"!

Back in the mid and late 90s my young daughter would often stay over (yay!) and we would have a fun, frequently silly and great evening…which I miss terribly BTW....but invariably she would fall asleep around nine. Too early for Daddy to go to sleep on a Friday or Saturday evening….so I would go into the relatively new AOL chatrooms looking for dates. (Trust me - I didn't find Meg Ryan.) In fact, most of my craziest - if not truly horrifying - encounters were with the women I met in the chat rooms. Ahhhh- I could tell you stories….(Eventually I gravitated to sites like Match.com and Jdate,) But I digress. Re the chat rooms…the defining characteristic of the rooms was the fact that they were (mostly) filled with very angry people who loved (it seemed) to argue about any and every subject - and demean the opinions and the character of the other members of the room.
Recently I belonged to a few FB groups where people talk about The Big Bang Theory (AKA "BEST SHOW EVER!) BAD MOVE. The groups now remind me of those long-ago days in the AOL chat rooms. Mostly because what they frequently do in these groups is FIGHT. Huge, angry disagreements about the stupidest things. Penny's hairstyle (like who gives a damn?) right now is the number one target. Other topics for HEATED discussion (I kid you not!) include: who should Raj end up with? Will Sheldon and Amy have sex? What is Stuart's relationship with Howard's Mom? All those may be interesting topics of conversation for people who love that show and the characters - but ANGRY ABUSIVE MEAN fighting? What is wrong with people today???
What happened to interesting discussions about character/plot/the acting…or the truly amazing writing? GRRRR…..it's enough to make me SCREAM! Well…almost...
Bye for now, be safe!
