I came back from the call-back this evening feeling wiped out. A friend of mine asked me why I put myself through these things, traveling to another part of the city, waiting around to be called, auditioning - and traveling back home. After all, he said - in a concerned and sincere manner - where was the payoff? (The subtext, of course, was "….at your age?") So I replied - with the same, sincere demeanor - "because it was fun. Because I get to play a part - if even just for a few short minutes under less than optimum circumstances . Because…you never know."
And because I am alive and trying to satisfy all of my latent creative urges in whatever time remains.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)The call-back was a hoot. I have been called back before….even booked some stuff…but never participated in this kind of call-back, a large room with all of the actors remaining, a pool of people trying for all the roles ion the show. Each of us was asked numerous times to act with a different combination of people. I was there for a fairly lengthy period and not only performed as my original character several times but also received the opportunity to play one of the other roles as well. I did OK as my character I think - I am pretty hard on myself, I have studying acting long enough to know what needs to be done (even if I don't always do it) - but I do know that as the second character I rocked (and it was a completely cold read.)
Who knows what will happen, there were a hell of lot of actors there - but I had a great time, felt good about myself and put myself out there.

I believe I answered my friend's question. :-)
Bye for now- be safe…
