On this date in another universe - and many light years ago - I had one of my upper-respiratory infections, temp of 101 and related cold issues. My friend "The Avenger of Edenn" dropped by to ask me if I wanted to go to a concert. At first I said "no way!" The Avenger persisted. "This guy is a more'rocking Dylan' He's gonna be BIG - suck down some Nyquil and come out with us - or you will regret that decision for sure!" OK…so I gave in….a "more rocking' Dylan?" - he hit me right where I lived. lol We were in the 2nd row…out came a scruffy, skinny guy who sat down at a piano and played a very beautiful - but very mellow - song called "the Angel". This guy was a "more rocking Dylan"? The song ended…
Suddenly the curtain lifted…a full band appeared…the first notes of "Spirit In The Night" filled the air…more than two and a half hours later we were all hooked! Dancing on chairs (despite the 101 temp) and even threatened with eviction by security - WHAT A GREAT NIGHT!
The next day I called my friend Andy - who worked at Korvettes in the record department - this was well before free long distance cell phones of course, so it was an expensive call -and asked him to put aside the first two albums by this relatively unknown performer - "he's gonna be HUGE!" I told my friend.
There were about 900 people in the audience that evening. A year later the singer/guitarist would be the first rocker to be featured on both the covers of both "Time" and "Newsweek" magazines in the same week….
So - all these years later I send a big "THANKS AGAIN!" to my friend The Avenger - for that evening I was able to see the one and only Bruce Springsteen - 2nd row, center! :-)
Memories…that's all for now- be safe!
